The First Scene

Dear Diary,

I spent my teenage years dreaming under this black and white collage of old Hollywood stars that decorated my room walls. It always made me wonder how can I feel nostalgic for a world I never knew. Little did I know back then, I would get to be under those scenes again, only this time it was a beautiful couple that was dreaming and me capturing their beauty while doing so.

In an era when cinematic quotes seem to be useful to people only to superficially cover their social media accounts, Themis and Maria, chose one that truly meant something to them and decided to live by it.

I fell in love with the atmosphere of this wedding as soon as the opening titles appeared and introduced to me the friends and family while the groom and bride were getting ready to get on stage. Everyone oozed such class, you would almost think they were specially casted.

The simplicity of the whole ceremony gave prominence to the photogenic couple who seemed to have escaped from this pure old cinematic universe. By the time everyone gathered up in the vintage summer cinema for the wedding reception I wanted to capture so much everything around me.

Even the things that do not fit in photos like the smell of the trees during the night, the beautiful music that was playing while a breeze was waving the hanging lights and the sound of people laughing under the black and white movies of the big screen.

It was that moment I realized what the lovely couple knew all along. Some things cannot be captured, you just have to live them. There would be no snare drums that night, no curtains. My photos are just frames of the first scene of an amazing movie. A movie about life being a celebration and how Themis and Maria chose to live together.
